No doubt everyone wishes to be successful. In discussing this, some fundamental principles like diligence, devotion and constancy should be borne in mind all the time.
Unfortunately, many people are “square pegs.” They work hard, but they lack contentment in their career. They feel unhappy and sometimes frustrated.
With Feng Shui, the ancient science of manipulating people’s living and work space, you can create harmonious interaction with the chi energies of the natural environment. The intangible forces create auspicious and inauspicious chi energy. It is important that you direct the auspicious chi energy to improve your career prospects. One effective way to harness truly good fortune for your career is the Life Aspiration Theory of Feng Shui.
The golden rule for activating career luck starts with the understanding of the octagon Bagua: its symbol, element, direction and meaning in relation to our life aspiration. Each trigram represents he following:
|
Wood
Wood
Fire
Earth
Metal
Metal
Water
Earth |
East
Southeast
South
Southwest
West
Northwest
North
Northeast |
- Possess good health, harmony and unity of the family - Become rich and wealthy - Achieve recognition, respectability and humor - Promote love life and enjoy a happy marriage - Have filial solidarity and successful children - Get help and support from rich and powerful people - Advance to great heights in one’s career - Enjoy success in learning and attain academic honors |
From the chart, you can see that the trigram Kan Gua located in the North represents career success and that its element is Water.
If your home or office in this North sector has good Feng Shui, you will attain great heights in your career. With bad Feng Shui, bad luck will prevail and you will find it difficult to gain promotion or even to get a job.
To locate the career luck sector in your house, room or office, first purchase a Feng Shui compass. Next, stand at the entrance door. Draw a rough layout of the area, identifying each corner according to its compass direction. Then you will know which corner of the place is associated with which life aspiration.
Now you can energize your career luck. Apply the rationale of the Five Elements (Metal, Wood, Earth, Fire and Water). Bear in mind that Water is the element of North. Take note of the productive and destructive cycles of the Five Elements.
Water is produced by Metal, so Metal is good for Water
Water itself produces Wood, so Wood could exhaust Water.
Water is blocked by Earth, so Earth is harmful to Water.
Water destroys Fire; it overcomes Fire.
To strengthen the element of the North, use objects or colors that symbolize both the Water and Metal elements. Aquariums, fountains, waterfalls, swimming pools, even fishes and the like symbolize Water. Feng Shui wind chime, Good Luck coin, bells and other lucky charms made of Metal symbolize this element that creates Water. White, blue, black, chocolate brown and gray are all favorable for the North.
When your garden is in the North part of the house, you can place a fountain to activate excellent opportunities for career advancement. It must be in harmonious balance with the overall garden setup, however. Do not use oversized or oddly-shaped fountains; they might overwhelm the other chi energies.
If the Dragon side of your house happens to be the career sector, it is ideal to place an aquarium as this makes an excellent Water chi energizer.
If your main entrance door is in the career sector, use the Feng Shui wind chime to attract lucky chi energy. This should be made of Metal, having at the center a Yan-Sheng coin and a Holy Gourd hanging below. This allows the lucky chi energy to be channeled to the proper sector.
Rebecca immediately sensed the anxiety and restlessness in her 12-year-old daughter Megan. The girl was trying hard to suppress tears but was not very good at it. “What’s wrong, honey?” Rebecca asked. It took a long time before the young girl mustered enough courage to face her mom. “I didn’t attend our cheering practice today because I have my period,” she sobbed haltingly. “And I’m worried that I may have a hard time in catching up with my classmates.”
Rebecca gave her daughter a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, honey. In just a day or two, you will be up and kicking on that cheering team. For the time being, take a rest in your bedroom, OK?” The girl nodded as she wiped the tears in her eyes. She wryly smiled to her mother and ambled towards her bedroom.
This scene would have been routine and ordinary except that Rebecca was sitting in her posh office at a towering skyscraper while her daughter was in their home 30 kilometers away. The two used video cameras mounted on each of their computers to talk to each other.
Many career-oriented mothers, like Rebecca, are utilizing the wonders of technology to stay connected to their children and family while in the office. The pressing financial need drives these mothers to leave home and find employment. Technology makes it possible for them to have a career and children, too.
However, there are instances where mothers have to struggle through the 9-to-5 work shift. This type of arrangement causes stress on family relationships. To avoid these kinds of difficulties, experts offer career moms the following strategies:
LEARN PORTABLE SKILLS. A job analyst said that a transferable skill set, such as accounting or brand management, is likely to be more saleable after a job hiatus than broad experience in, say, investment banking, or than general management experience in any industry. Accounting, for instance, has lured women partly because its skills are portable. Sales is another transferable skill; results in this commission-driven field are easily measured and proven.
Take the case of Judith, a hotel and restaurant management graduate and a mother driven to work by pressing financial burdens. She settles as part-time real property consultant selling condominiums to customers. She works at her own time and at her own pleasure. Another great example is that of Elizabeth who works as a part time underwriter. She sells insurance and pension plans while staying connected with her kids.
SETTLE FOR A FLEXIBLE WORK. This includes telecommuting (working from home), free-lancing, per contract basis, pert-time, or remote working. This is best exemplified by Eva, a career mom. She scours posh subdivisions and undertakes landscaping jobs, which she turns over to an established landscaping company for a modest commission.
“I can take care of my children while earning money,” Eva says. Now she commissions two working moms to do the scouring for her. She stays home most of the time playing with two children.
OPEN UP A PERSONAL BUSINESS VENTURE. Jill used to work for an investment company. It was a full-time demanding job, and with the after office hours business functions she has to attend, Jill often goes home late in evening. With the birth of her first child, quit her job and stayed home. That was the time she thought of selling her jewelry during her spare time to former colleagues and friends. Her direct-selling approach gave her phenomenal success. She now has a jewelry shop of her own, right in the comforts of her home.
CHOOSE AN IN-DEMAND CAREER WORK. Economic career pillars are those in hospital and medicine field. Examples are X-ray technician, nursing aides, caregivers, physical therapist, and the like. These careers offer flexible time for career-oriented moms so that they can still take care of their kids at the same time. Her growing family needs spurred Kelly to take on an on-line course about being a nursing aide. When she completed the course, she settles for a night shift in a nearby hospital so she can supervise her kindergarten age child during the day.
INVOLVE THE KIDS. When Helen decided to set up a home office, she gathered her children together and discussed ways that they could help her. One volunteered to answer the telephone, another offered to clean the “home office,” while still another serves as a baby sitter for the youngest while mom is at work. Involving the kids in her career work is like hitting two birds with one stone. Helen remains connected with the children while enhancing her job as dentist.
